LSU Football!!!

I don't think I could have had a better Thursday night. This is a really fun time of year, college football starting back up, and my favorite team is ranked no. 2, it is going to be a fun season (at least I hope so). Unless a miracle happens for the Miss. State team I think that LSU will win this one.

My favorite thing when I was growing up in Baton Rouge was LSU Sports. Football, baseball, basketball... There was something about the atmosphere. It was amazing, the excitement, energy and expectation... and of course the thousands of drunks...

ANYWAY... the main point... football has started back and GEAUX TIGERS!!

Wednesday Night Review

This week we were looking at baptism the overarching theme of obedience, doing what God tells you to do when He tells you to. We were in Acts 9 with Ananias and Paul. The really cool thing was how refreshing it is to worship with our middle school students. Here is the wrap-up of the night.

We had a phenomenal night with exception to the message (I'm my own worst critic). The student response was amazing. Students dealt with God, brought friends, and really engaged in Worship. I have never worked with a more amazing team, paid and volunteer, it is such a blessing not to be the only one engaging the lives of these middle school students.

Wednesday Night Review

WOW!! It was a great kick-off to a new school year. I think that it was an exceptional night... I'm going to start doing these after every wednesday night. I think that it will be very helpful for everyone involved in our process...and if not that then just me. I'm taking the format from another Jr. High blog that I follow, so don't give me credit.

It is great to see students still moving after camp. Everyone was excited, you could really feel that in the room. The game at the end topped the fun factor off... I think we'll continue that to keep the excitement level up for the next few weeks. Our series began with a series on salvation, I walked through the Romans Road and talked about the need for Salvation and how to get it, the students were for the most part tuned in, at the end we didn't have anyone come to us to talk with us, but still had students move to deal with God, in prayer and worship. Next week we are continuing our series and talking about Baptism... I'm hoping to follow this in a few weeks with a Middle School Baptism Service.

back to the basics

The next few Wednesday nights we will be heading back to the basics... "we need to get back to the basics of life"... All of the sudden I'm taken back to when I was in middles school. By the way the quote up there is from a 4him song, i think?... Anyway... We have our first annual influx of 6th graders into our ministry which started this past Sunday. So this first wednesday we are focusing on a relationship with Jesus... "Salvation" it should be a great way to begin the school year.

Some basics to middle school ministry:

- allowing students to experience freedom in a controlled environment. (by controlled environment I mean that we have our finger on what the results are going to be, and can stop and regroup as things develop)
- challenging students beyond others and their own expectations. Making sure that they know that they can do God sized things even as a middle school student.
- pushing them to have ownership to their faith. (it isn't the event that led them to a desicion, it was the Holy Spirit working in their lives) I don't want our students to be addicted to our Middle School Ministry events, I want them to be addicted to God working in their lives.
- There are a lot more basics than I have time to write...

Why don't you think about it and add some comments to add to my list...

some of the best moments at camp

Camp was an amazing Middle School experience where we had a great number of awesome things happen, and a few crazy things as well. The most amazing thing was the response of the students to the movement of God. That is what we wanted to happen among the students and it was truly amazing how God showed up. This is our final camp video that highlights some of the cool moments of camp.

We had a great week at camp, one student accepted Christ and many made decisions to tell their stories with their friends and families.

You can see more of what we did at camp at www.youtube.com/triplemsm

Things I'm thinking about...

1. I have an awesome wife... Not only Hot as all get out, she really cares about me and loves me, and shows me every chance that she gets. I learn something new from her every day.

2. Why doesn't MTV show videos anymore... I really can't remember when they ever have. I just heard someone say that the other day and then I started thinking, even if they did play videos more, would I or the guy that said that really watch? I just don't know.

3. All the sudden I feel so grown up. It seems just yesterday Kristi and I were going on our first date running someone off the road and helping them change a tire. Now I have two sons, I'm blessed beyond comprehension, and ... I guess all I really miss is the summers off, because I would really not change anything right now.

4. Diet coke really tastes good... just a thought... it really just came through my head.

5. It is the little moments in life that are the most fun, like going really fast on a bass boat on the Toledo Bend Reservoir, driving back from dallas avoiding an overturned RV, buying an engagement ring with the entire amount in your checking account and then putting it in your friends sock (Ok that was a big moment)

6. Trying to think of things to put in your blog about stuff you are thinking about... I guess that means I'm done.

normal friday

The last few weeks have been a bit discombobulated, to say the least. I finally have a normal friday on my hands. I'm hoping that it turns out to be fun. A normal friday consists of my oldest son, Jonathan, and I going to a movie or shopping for stuff that we can't afford, or going to the Naples Zoo (not incredibly impressive), really just anything that we can do together.

Jonathan really likes to go to the movie so today we are going to see Underdog. I haven't heard anything about it yet... so we'll see. I think a talking dog will keep Jonathan's attention.

Camp Spasm

Camp Spasm was an incredible experience. I'm so blessed to be the middle school minister at McGregor Baptist Church. This is one of the many video's that Josh and I got to do this summer.

maybe this will stick

Ok, Gerald keeps on teasing me about my blog! "Scheduling me..." To be honest with you, it is kinda stupid sounding especially if it is the only thing that has been updated on your blog for over a month. I'm gonna get a little more serious about this thing. I think that it could be a great tool if I can stick to getting it updated and direct my leaders (hopefully you) to read it on a regular basis.

How lame can you get. Blogging about how you don't blog enough... this is sure going to generate excitement and buzz and people from all over the US are going to want to spend time reading this.

ANYWAY, I'm back on, getting started for the 3 purposes of just a random thoughts, family update and most importantly leadership development, that is what my blog will be.
